How to slow down a YouTube dance tutorial

Fast choreography is much easier to learn at half speed. SongMark slows any YouTube video down to 0.25× while keeping the music at its normal pitch, and loops the section you're working on.

Step by step

  1. Paste the tutorial's link

Copy the video's link from YouTube (Share, then Copy link) and paste it into the box at the top of SongMark. The video starts straight away.

  2. Step the speed down

Tap − next to the speed to go from 1× to 0.75×, 0.5× or 0.25×. Tap + to build back up as the moves start to stick.

  3. Loop the section you're learning

Drag the two loop handles around the part you're practising, or tap a time to type it exactly, then switch on Loop section. It repeats until you turn it off.

A practice routine that works

  1. Watch it once at full speed so you know where the section is going.
  2. Loop one section at 0.5× until you can do it without looking.
  3. Step up to 0.75×, then 1×, keeping the same loop.
  4. Mirror the video if the teacher is facing you, so their left matches yours.
  5. Film a take with the camera next to the video and watch it back to spot what to fix.

Questions

Will the music sound slowed down or deep?

No. The pitch stays the same at every speed, so the song still sounds right, just slower.

What's the slowest speed?

0.25×, a quarter of the normal speed. The steps are 0.25×, 0.5×, 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75× and 2×.

Can I loop just a few seconds?

Yes. A loop can be as short as one second, which is handy for a single tricky move.

Do I need to sign in?

No. Everything works without an account. Sign in if you want your playlists saved across devices.

Ready to practise?

Paste a YouTube link and you're looping, slowing and mirroring in seconds. No download or account needed.
