How to film yourself dancing next to the video
Watching yourself is the fastest way to see what's different from the original. SongMark puts your camera right next to the YouTube video, records your take, and plays it back so you can compare before saving.
Open SongMark, it's freeStep by step
Open the video in SongMark
Paste the YouTube link into the box at the top of SongMark. Mirror it and slow it down first if you're still learning the moves.
Turn on the camera
Tap the camera button under the video and allow camera access. Your camera appears beside the video on a computer, or below it on a phone, in the same shape as the video.
Choose mirrored or true view
The camera starts mirrored, like a selfie camera. Tap the flip button next to Record to switch, before you start; the recording keeps whichever view you chose.
Record a take
Tap Record, dance along with the video, then tap Stop.
Watch it back, then save or retake
Your take plays straight away and the song pauses while you watch. Tap Save recording to keep it on your device, or Record again to try another take.
Getting a useful take
- Frame your whole body. Step back until your feet and hands are in the frame; most mistakes are in the arms and footwork.
- Match the camera to the video. If the original is filmed facing the dancers, film yourself facing the camera too, so the two are easy to compare.
- Review one thing at a time. Watch each take for a single detail, such as timing, arm height or direction, rather than everything at once.
Questions
Does the recording include the YouTube video?
No. SongMark records only your camera and microphone, so the file is just you. Your microphone may pick up the music if you aren't using headphones.
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Recordings stay on your device and are only saved when you choose Save recording.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. SongMark runs in your phone's browser; allow camera and microphone access when asked. Prop your phone up so the camera can see your whole body.
Why is my recording a different shape from my camera?
SongMark frames your camera to match the video, landscape for regular videos and vertical for Shorts, so your take lines up with the original.
